February 26, 2010 -

Note to parents:

Dear parents and players,

I hope all has been good during this break. It is time that we start to think about the next season. In the past we’ve held pre-season conditioning but I hope to change that this year. It is my concrete belief that high school athletes benefit from participation in high school sports. Therefore, rather than provide conditioning, I highly recommend that athletes participate in track and field. Even players involved in spring soccer should think about their conditioning and cross-training. It is a good idea to develop speed and physical condition in track. Coaches will work with the girls to develop them for their sport. Remember that track and field offers a flexible training schedule and many opportunities to compete and be recognized. Track begins Feb. 24.

I also recommend that players develop with a club in the spring, begin weight training, and take advantage of the activities at Ryle. Ryle has an open gym futsal Tuesday and Thursday in March. All girls are encouraged to participate. In the summer Ryle will have the 7 v 7 games, again, I encourage girls to make 9 people teams to compete.

Besides these opportunities, I want to talk to girls who want to play at the collegiate level and start to put together their portfolio. These girls should also attend camps during the summer and begin a weight training program. I will speak to them in March.

We will have a parent committee meeting in March and a parent/athlete meeting in April.

Conditioning will begin with the team after the last day of school (AM) until June 24

Dead Period June 24-July 9

Time trials in July (week of 10th)

First day of practice July 15

Wednesday 10/7 - ONLY Varsity will play. I've contacted the BB coach asking to reschedule the games but that option is not likely. The
boys had to move their schedule around to make up games lost last week. Like us, their district match has to be played on Tuesday and
that means that they lost their senior night. They will play their senior night game on Wednesday before the girls varsity senior night.
Girls senior night festivities will be between the games. Our schedule Senior Night slot is 7:45-8:00 PM. All athletes wear your nicest
clothes in honor of our seniors and last home game of the season.

ALL Non-Senior Players should meet on the track in front of the grandstands no later than 7:30 tonight to get setup for Senior night.

Thursday 10/8 - practice for varsity. JV has a tournament. Schedule will be shared as soon as possible.

Friday 10/9 - practice for varsity.

Saturday 10/11 - ?? practice?? We need to keep this day open for practice. We might either play Monday (no school this day) or Wednesday, depending on Tuesday's game against St. Henry.

Friday 10/2
Ryle at St. Henry - Varsity game canceled due to illness - Coach will try to reschedule for Tuesday 10/6.

Saturday 10/3
Ryle at St. Henry (Freshman) - Game has been canceled - Coach will advise if it can be rescheduled.

Ryle vs Holmes - Varsity game canceled - Coach will try to reschedule for Saturday 10/10 at 5:00pm.

Senior soccer memory forms due!

Seniors please turn in your senior soccer memory forms to Mrs. Brookbank on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009. She needs to get the program ready. If she does not receive them by Monday night, you will not be in the senior program.

Everyone, we gave out information about senior night to the girls that were at the team dinner last week. I realize that not all were able to make and we found many of the fliers in the trash after the dinner. So in brief the fliers were asking for each girl to donate $20 to the senior gifts and coaches gifts. This can be either cash or a check made out to Lori Johnson. This can be given to Mrs. Brookbank, Lori or Terry Johnson, or Liz Johnson. We are asking that you put it an envelope with the players name and "Senior Night". We are asking that the seniors only donate $10 for the coaches gifts, as we don't want you giving to your own gifts. Senior night is Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009.

If you have any questions or would like to help with this night, please contact Mrs. Brookbank.

Wednesday 9/23
Ryle at Scott - JV and Varsity Times TBD

Monday 9/21

TONIGHT - Ryle vs Boone

The JV and Varsity games scheduled for this evening at Boone County HS will be played at Ryle HS(Borland Stadium). JV game is at 6pm and Varsity is 7:30pm.

Need gate and concession volunteers for the JV and Varsity games (Contact Rhonda Wilson or Lori Johnson)

Friday 9/14
Rescheduled - Varsity (7:00) vs. Conner

Still need two concession workers for the Varsity game (Contact Rhonda)

Monday 9/14
JV (7:00) and Varsity (5:30) at Holy Cross

The soccer season is going well and I'm enjoying the games. There is no doubt that we have a hard working group of athletes.

Saturday
We have a FR game vs Boone at 6 PM. FR don't have many games where we can support just them so I'd like to invite the team to come out and show your Lady Raider Spirit.

Monday
JV and Varsity will travel to Oldham Co. We will take a bus. FR will not practice, but JV and V will have mandatory study hall. I'd like to have a few parents help bring sandwich meats, bread, bananas, and sports drinks for the teams. Please contact the parent administrators and help the girls. Study hall will end when the bus arrives and is meant to be used for studying and homework completion. Girls must go to their teachers and get work. Next week will be hectic and I don't want the grades to suffer.

Friday
Varsity will travel to IN for a tourney. Parents please organize so that you can get the girls to the game in Bloomington. Game time is 10:20 PM. Girls should be at the field by 8:30 PM, and they need to have had dinner. Remember to eat like an athlete (avoid foods that might upset your stomach). The team will stay together Friday and Saturday night. It is imperative that transportation be secured to and from the fields for all athletes. We'll need parents to volunteer and help. I have never gone to this tourney and will be available all weekend, but we need to work together to make it a success at all levels.

Parent helpers for meals, snacks, water, tents, etc. will be needed. If you will be at the games and can help please contact Terry or Lori Johnson.

Saturday
All 9th and 8th graders not traveling to IN will participate in the FR tourney. Coach Moore will send out info and keep everyone informed. Varsity will play two games, again we need to coordinate everything!

Sunday
Team breakfast and dismissal. If you will not be at the games you must secure a ride home for your athlete. Please contact Terry or Lori for more info or ideas.

Spirit Jug

A “Spirit Jug” is used to collect quarters from parents after a goal is scored. This is a fun, motivating way to raise money for the girl’s end of season banquet and coaches gifts.

The Spirit Jug Family-will circulate the “Spirit Jug” every time our team scores and will keep track of the “Spirit Jug” funds until the end of the season.

Personalized Soccer Balls

I would also like to ask parents of new players to please donate $5.00 per girl for the soccerballs that will hang on the fence at the home games. These balls have the last name and number of the girl. The $5.00 covers the cost of the materials to make the balls. If you could please give this to your team's administrator as soon as possible we would appreciate it.
